Onion Gravy Recipe

A simple, quick and satisfying onion gravy

This gravy is quick and easy to make and is a perfect to serve with any meat dish.


2 onions, peeled and sliced thickly
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
750ml beef stock
1 teaspoon sugar
4 teaspoons cold water
4 teaspoons corn starch
Salt and black pepper

Recipe Instructions

Cook the ingredients:
Mix together the oil and the butter in a large saucepan and add the onion. Cover with a lid and cook over a gentle heat for 10 minutes until the onions are soft. Add the sugar and balsamic vinegar and stir together well. Cover and cook for another 5 minutes. Add the stock and bring the mixture to the boil. Reduce the heat and boil gently uncovered for 5 minutes.

Thicken the gravy.
Mix together the cornstarch and water in a bowl and stir to make a paste. Pour a little of the gravy into the cornstarch mixture and mix together well. Pour the cornstarch mix into the gravy and let the mixture boil for 10 minutes until the gravy thickens. Keep the gravy warm until serving.
