Onion and Cheese Pasties Recipe

A quick and simple snack to make.


450g onions, peeled and sliced
450g mature cheddar, grated
900g short crust pastry
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Beaten egg for glazing
Salt and pepper

Recipe Instructions

Preheat the oven to 200C.

Prepare the pastry.
Roll out the pastry and cut out 6 rounds, 20cm each in diameter.

Cook the filling.
Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the onions until they start to soften. Remove from the heat and leave it to cool. Stir in the grated cheese and season well with salt and pepper.

Make the pasties.
Place the filling equally on the 6 pastry rounds and crimp the edges together. Brush over with a little beaten egg.

Bake the pasties.
Place the pasties on a baking sheet and bake for 20 – 30 minutes until the pastry has turned golden. The pasties can be served hot or cold.
